The new SMSU Agronomy Program will be housed within the Science Department and will build on existing strengths in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.  The program is designed to help the student make important connections between the natural world and human activities through an interdisciplinary approach to agriculture.  The students will learn about connections with the natural world, such as air, water, soil, and plant interactions, which will provide them with the knowledge base and technical proficiency needed to be successful with a career in agronomy.  Developing human connections with other students, faculty, business leaders and government agencies will increase their interpersonal communication skills and networks necessary to be successful in the marketplace.

What is Agronomy?

Why choose Agronomy?

Students doing lab work"I chose Agronomy at SMSU for the personal attention you can receive because of smaller class sizes which makes class an enjoyable working environment.  I also enjoy the field trips that we take," Mitchell

"I chose the Agronomy program because of one-on-one interaction with professors, the hands-on experiments and the field trips which make learning easier and more fun." Ben
